Trap Shooting Programs

Trap shooting at the North Peace Rod & Gun Club offers members and participants a structured environment to practice and enjoy one of the club’s most active shooting disciplines. Programs are designed to support safe participation, skill development, community involvement, and recreational competition for shooters of all experience levels.

Trap shooting activities are offered based on club scheduling, range conditions, volunteer availability, and seasonal operations.

About Trap Shooting at the Club

Trap shooting involves launching clay targets away from the shooter to simulate moving targets. All shooting activities are conducted in accordance with established safety standards, range rules, and operational procedures.

The club currently operates multiple trap houses and hosts a variety of programs throughout the season, ranging from beginner-friendly evenings to registered competitive shoots.

Weekly Trap League
The NPRG Trap League occurs on a weekly basis, Monday evenings, starting in May until September. It is open to shooters of all skill levels with the hope that proficiency will continue to develop through consistent practice. Elements of competition against yourself or others can enter into the evening. A registration fee is required at the start of the year. A shooter has to shoot at least 10 times during the course of the league to be eligible for prizes at the year end wind-up and dinner.
Trap Shooting - Multiplex
Multiplex is an affiliated program to PITA, where once per month, May – August, members shoot targets that count towards their PITA total. The event consists of 50 targets in singles, handicap, and doubles. A fee to participate each evening is charged and at the end of the shooting schedule participants may be rewarded for their shooting proficiency
Ladies Intro to Trap

The Ladies Intro to Trap program is designed to create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for women who are new to trap shooting or looking to build confidence with firearms and shooting sports.

Programs may include:

  • Firearm safety and range etiquette
  • Trap shooting basics and techniques
  • Hands-on instruction
  • One-on-one volunteer support
  • Supervised shooting opportunities

The program focuses on education, confidence building, and creating a positive first experience in the shooting sports community.

Space may be limited depending on volunteer and range availability.

Drop-In Trap Shooting
Drop-in Trap Shooting opportunities are available throughout the year, whenever the range is open. During the winter months this may be restricted due to extreme cold but every effort is made to allow shooters to practice their sport throughout the year.
PITA Registered Shoots and Ram Buckle Shoot
The club is a member of the BC Trapshooting Assoc(BCTA) and the Pacific International Trapshooting Association(PITA). These organizations hold a number of sanctioned competitions throughout the year in various communities. The club traditionally holds our main event, the Ram Buckle Shoot, on the 1st weekend after the Victoria Day long weekend in May. This event sees competitors come from a varying locations such as BC, AB, & on occasions even the USA.

Our shoot, the Ram Buckle Shoot is shot over a number of days with normally 300 birds being shot each day – 100 singles, 100 handicap, and 100 doubles.

Corporate and Group Trap Rentals

Businesses, organizations, and private groups may be able to rent the trap facilities for events, team-building activities, staff functions, or private shooting experiences.

Group trap rentals may include:

  • Dedicated trap field access
  • Volunteer trap operators
  • Safety orientation
  • Structured shooting sessions
  • Customized scheduling where available

Availability depends on club scheduling, volunteer availability, and range operations.

Groups interested in rentals or private events are encouraged to contact the club directly for more information.

Who Can Participate

Trap shooting programs may be available to:

  • Club members
  • Junior members (with approved participation)
  • Registered event participants
  • Non-members where permitted and supervised

Eligibility, fees, firearm requirements, and participation guidelines are communicated in advance for each program or event.

The availability and structure of trap shooting activities may vary throughout the year.

Equipment & Fees

Participants are responsible for supplying their own:

  • Firearms
  • Ammunition
  • Hearing protection
  • Eye protection
  • Other required safety equipment

The club does not sell ammunition or rent firearms.

Clay target fees, league fees, event fees, and registration costs may apply depending on the activity or membership status.

Safety First

Safety is the highest priority during all trap shooting activities. Participants are expected to:

  • Follow all posted range rules
  • Obey instructions from Range Operators and event staff
  • Use approved equipment suitable for trap shooting
  • Handle firearms safely at all times
  • Conduct themselves in a respectful and responsible manner

Failure to follow safety procedures may result in removal from the activity or range.
