At a meeting held in Fort St. John, interested residents came together to establish what was then known as the North of the Peace Rod and Gun Club. Annual membership dues were set at $1.00, and officers were elected that very first evening.

From the outset, the club’s objectives extended beyond shooting sports. Early members focused on wildlife conservation and stewardship, including efforts to encourage local farmers to raise pheasants and to explore stocking Charlie Lake with suitable sport fish. Meetings were held on the last Monday of each month at Walter Weldon’s implement shop, providing a consistent gathering place for members and community involvement.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label="Growth and Community Effort
" _builder_version="4.27.6" _module_preset="default" custom_padding="||25px||false|false" border_width_bottom="1px" border_color_bottom="rgba(123,123,123,0.52)" global_colors_info="{}"]

Growth and Community Effort

As membership grew, so did the club’s vision. Payments were informal—no interest and pay when able—a testament to the community support that has always defined the club.

Volunteer effort played a vital role in shaping the range. Club members organized work bees, including one of the earliest large projects—a root‑picking bee in 1967. Leaders like Pat Preston, who served as President, and community members such as Vic Brandl, donated equipment, time, and expertise to clear land and build infrastructure.
